What is Water Blasting or Water Jetting?

Water Blasting/ Water jetting

Water blasting, also known as water jetting is a fast, efficient, and powerful cleaning method used for a variety of surfaces. It utilizes pressurized water to effectively remove dirt, rust, paint, and other debris from any surface. This process can be used in both industrial and residential settings to clean up anything from engines to buildings.

This non-abrasive cleaning solution is preferred over other methods such as sandblasting because it produces no dust or hazardous materials.

By using an adjustable nozzle on the hose, you can control the pressure of the water stream being released. This allows you to customize the power of your blast depending on what kind of material you are trying to remove.

Water blasting can also be used for etching and degreasing surfaces prior to painting or coating them for added durability and longevity.

How water blasting works?

This method consists of ejecting water under high pressure (750 to 1700 bar) via a nozzle which works on the principle of kinetic force.

The jet of water created by the nozzle is capable of removing any debris or contaminants on the surface with great precision and efficiency.

The process starts by supplying pressurized water into the gun at a rate that creates enough power for cleaning surfaces without any damage.

When the pressurised water exits through the nozzle, it generates tremendous energy in form of kinetic force which breaks down debris particles on contact and then removes them from surface.

Types of Water Blasting

  • Low-pressure Water Blasting: with water pressure in the range of 800 bar.
  • High-pressure Water Blasting: with water pressure in the range of 1700 bar.

Advantages of Water Blasting

This method of cleaning can be applied on various surfaces such as asphalt and concrete pavements, metal structures and ships’ hulls in order to remove dirt or paint.

Water blasting is an effective way of removing stubborn grease, oil and deposits from machinery parts without damaging them.

Main advantages of Water Blasting are:

  1. Environmental friendly.
  2. No need of any abrasives.
  3. No chemical substances required.
  4. Portable and minimal setup requirements.
  5. Good for most of surfaces.

Disadvantages of Water Blasting

The main disadvantages of Water Blasting or Water jetting are:

  1. Not suitable for hard surfaces.
  2. Large volume of water is required.
  3. Personnel must be aware of safety hazards.
